Description
The Silver Shadow was produced from 1965 until 1980 with significant model changes in 1970 and 1977. Over 30, 000 were produced making it the most successful Rolls Royce in terms of production numbers.
This car is a 1974 Silver Shadow in Willow Gold with a dark brown “Everflex” roof and Beige interior. The mileage is 51, 000 - we don’t guarantee mileages on classic cars as a matter of course but the history file indicates that this is correct. It was ordered new in 1974 and supplied to St Helier Garages, Jersey on behalf of a Mrs Christie who covered just 600 miles in three years before selling it to Romans of Woking. Interestingly, the invoice from Crewe in 1974 is for £10, 500 (VAT free) - in 1977 it changed hands for £17, 000. Romans registered the car here (hence the “R” registration plate; the DVLC were allocating current numbers to imported cars) before selling it to its next two owners, in 1977 and 1981. The third owner kept the car for twenty–five years, from 1990 until 2015. He clearly cherished it, collecting at least seventeen wins at Rolls concours events and other prestige shows. The most recent owners (husband and wife) owned the car for the last ten years and sold it to us recently due to their advancing years.
The condition is best described as outstanding. This is not quite a concours car but the body and paint are superb as is the underside which has never been welded. The interior is also in beautiful order - the dashboard and cappings are more or less as new.
In 2023 (and just 500 miles ago) a comprehensive refresh was carried out by Rolls specialist “Cameron Autos” including a service, brake and carburettor overhaul and a long list of other jobs – too much to list here - at a cost of £7500. As you would expect it runs and rides beautifully. We have just carried out a few minor additional jobs in preparation for sale and a couple of hundred test miles – it is now ready for use and as you would expect it drives beautifully.
The aforementioned history file is extensive and contains new and old V5 documents, service book, old MOT certificates, original build sheets, original bill of sale, details of concours wins, copies of three newspaper articles covering its success at shows, correspondence with the DVLA and between owners and a substantial number of bills.
We have sold a dozen or so Shadows over the years – this is certainly the best, a pampered car with great history, in beautiful order.
