Description
The MGA was produced between 1955 and 1962. Although it was built on a chassis, the styling was modern compared with its predecessors and the car was fitted with the new “B” series engine from the MG Magnette saloon, allowing nearly 100mph top speed.
This car is a 1957 MGA 1500 roadster, a UK supplied RHD car in its original colour of Glacier Blue which was only available on 1500 roadsters. We bought it as a restored car needing minor finishing, which we have carried out. The last owner bought it as a solid project in 2018 and over the next six years completed a nut and bolt strip down and re-build. There are plenty of pictures of the work and every component (except the engine and gearbox) has been replaced or refurbished including all of the complicated inner sections of the body which have been fabricated or replaced with repair panels. Around £10k was spent on parts and specialist services and this is best illustrated by looking underneath – more or less everything is new. The engine was stripped and inspected (but no work was required) and the gearbox was deemed to be excellent. The interior is also very good; various instruments have been replaced, the hood, side-screens and carpets are new and the seats have been restored with new leather covers to the correct original pattern. The under-bonnet is also very pleasing to the eye – at some stage in the 1970’s the original engine has been replaced with a gold-seal unit which is now correctly painted in BMC red.
On the road this beautiful MGA is a joy to drive. We’d forgotten just how well a sorted MGA drives and this one is just that with willing power and a tight feel as you would expect after all of this work.
This is not a concours car, as an excellent home restoration there are various minor imperfections although it would be difficult to find a better one at this price point - plus the original registration number “NDT600” is transferable, included and of significant value.
It comes with a substantial amount of bills, heritage certificate, current V5 (showing just one previous owner) and original buff logbook.
