Description
Whoever put together this Porsche Boxster could not have done better, in my opinion. They chose the S version of the Boxster with the delicious 3. 4-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine. Anyway, the 981 is known for its great steering and handling, especially in the S version it is a great sports car. And importantly: a manual transmission was chosen! Because as nice as a PDK can be: for the true helmsman/ woman, nothing beats a manual gearbox. The manual transmission was more expensive in the Netherlands than the PDK version, so an original Dutch-built manual Boxster S is relatively rare.
The 981 is also equipped with not too much fuss, the necessary options such as air conditioning, variable power steering and Xenon are present, but this Boxster S was mainly composed with an eye on pure driving pleasure. For instance, a leather dashboard is obviously nice, but adds little other than extra weight. Ditto for a separate climate control; after all, you want to drive this roadster mostly open. So this Boxster S weighs only 1295 kg empty!
Then the colour: Racing Yellow. How cool! It looks great on the car and is so much nicer than yet another black, blue or grey Boxster. The exterior colour is also reflected in the interior trim, a great detail. So when you are on the road, you get the feeling of being on the road with something special. This feeling is enhanced by the many accessories from the original Porsche Tequipment line.
As this 981 has just been fitted by me with many original and brand new Porsche Tequipment parts/ accessories. After all, I find the standard Boxster S steering wheel in leather terrible in terms of design. When I bought it, I immediately knew it had to be a different steering wheel. Something that suits the "GT3-like character" of this Boxster. So in the interior, a new original Alcantara sports steering wheel was fitted. To go with that, a beautiful Alcantara gear stick and an Alcantara centre armrest with Porsche logo were fitted. These match perfectly with the Alcantara seats. To finish it off in terms of interior styling, there are also floor mats from the Tequipment range. Beautiful black velour mats with yellow stitching in the edge and yellow Porsche lettering. So those are now also a set of new ones in there...
In terms of exterior, I fitted the Porsche with Porsche Tequipment darkened rear lights, original Porsche-derived type marking on the front doors in black and original black logos on the rear boot lid. I also fitted a new black 20-inch wide-set, with new hubcaps with coloured Porsche arms, and new Pirelli tyres with Porsche coding. An Eibach set really finishes it off. Should anyone like the standard parts/ accesoires better, which I can hardly imagine, these are of course with the car. Everything is in new condition in accordance with the very low mileage. Also both keys are present of course, one key is also fitted by me with Tequipment covers in the exterior colour of the car. This key is stored in a Tequipment Alcantara key cover with Porsche logo.
The great thing about all this is that the car has been driven less than 1, 500 km after installation: the next owner will therefore really get a new steering wheel, etc. The whole car is in as good as new condition. That is to be expected with only 38, 000 km, yet we sometimes see it differently. The car has been driven carefully and is in first paint!
Is there no downside to mention? Well, not really... I only have to disappoint the Porsche fetishists who only want to see Porsche dealer stamps in the service booklet. We always go with special cars like a Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini to Guus van Eijk in Gorinchem. Not a brand dealer, but in this world a very familiar address. Guus is a true professional, one who understands how an enthusiast wants his toys to be handled.
What would you rather have, a younger Boxster with a four-cylinder that is still guaranteed to depreciate (they are already approaching the price of a 981) or the much more value-retaining last Boxster generation equipped with the great-sounding 6-cylinder boxer engine? We would obviously go for the 981, the classic in the making. Especially in this configuration and condition. In any case, I fell for it like a log: in the current market in terms of condition it can hardly be surpassed and if you are in the market for a unique and super genuine 981, this is your car. This is as close as you can get to a 981 in as good as new condition. So why sell it, I hear you thinking... Well, for some of you this may sound familiar, but the car is finished and I am carefully looking at a new project. The car may therefore be sold to another enthusiast.
But please note if you want to come and view the car: the Porsche is not on my premises, I enjoy it to the full when the weather is nice. The mileage may therefore increase slightly and the car can be viewed by appointment only. If seriously interested, I will gladly bring the car to Boxtel, if the weather is nice ;-)
