The Elise provides an engaging driving experience and excellent fun with its nimble handling and ride height of 470 mm. Designed by Lotus’s then Head of Design, Julian Thomson, and chief engineer, Richard Rackham, the Series 1 Elise was produced between 1996 and 2001. Its fiberglass body and bonded aluminium chassis meant that the car weighed a mere 725 kg. The 1. 8L K-series engine produces 118 bhp and a 0-60 mph time of 5. 8 seconds.
This example left the Hethel factory at the end of 1998 in Lotus’s iconic yellow and green colour scheme: Mustard Yellow ‘Spice’ metallic with a Racing Green leather interior and cloth soft top. The following shows details of the car’s history:
- This Elise was supplied new by SGT Garages of Maidenhead on 07. 01. 1999 with multiple factory-fitted options, including a ‘Janspeed’ exhaust, auxiliary driving lamps, radio fitting kit and a green cloth soft top.
- SGT completed the car’s first service on 18. 03. 1999 at 2, 455 miles.
- The second service was also conducted by SGT on 07. 01. 2000 at 10, 345 miles.
- The next major service was executed by Lakeside Engineering on 17. 12. 2001 at 24, 152 miles.
- The owner completed oil filter servicing himself until 2008 when a new exhaust and ball joints were installed by Brooke Kensington Ltd on 03. 10. 2008 at 34, 572 miles.
- A new battery was installed at 37, 301 miles (19. 06. 2010).
- The catalytic converter was replaced by Browns Thame Ltd. at 37, 720 miles (18. 06. 2011).
- At 38, 424 miles, Browns Thame Ltd. completed a full service on 24. 06. 2016, replacing the cam belt and water pump.
- Williams Automotive carried out the following work between 2017 and 2019: replace auxiliary belt and Yokohama Advan rear tyres (42, 419 miles), repair starter motor and fit a new sports catalytic converter (42, 974 miles), replace alternator and belt (44, 801 miles).
- The catalytic converter was replaced by Browns Thame Ltd on 24. 12. 2020 at 54, 154 miles along with other MOT advisory work.
- Bristol Classic Car Restorations Ltd undertook the following work to the car in January and March 2021: brake discs and pads replaced, new water pump, driver’s seat retrim, hood repair, new adjustable shock absorbers fitted all round and wheels refurbished.
- Prior to its sale at auction on 22. 05. 2021, the owner took the Elise to Specialised Paintwork (factory-approved body shop) for a respray of the front and rear clamshells and the mirrors (54, 279 miles). This took the total work completed under the first owner to nearly £13, 000.
- The car’s next service was with Ian Button Cars Ltd. on 16. 08. 2022 (54, 307 miles).
- Hilton & Moss serviced the car on 10. 10. 2023 (54, 310 miles) – the car was stored there from May 2021 until its most recent change of ownership.
- It has been freshly serviced with Trofeo Cars Ltd. at on 24. 01. 2025 (54, 474 miles) and the paintwork has been recently polished.
Invoices for all of the completed work, along with the original owner’s manual are all provided with the car.
