The Rover Company was a British bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer before it began the manufacture of motor cars. Rover was established in 1878 by John Kemp Starley in Coventry, to produce bicycles. The company developed and produced the Rover Imperial motorcycle in November 1902. Between 1903 and 1924, Rover produced more than 10, 000 motorcycles.
This 1914 Rover 3½HP 500cc single has been part of a collection of motorcycles for many years. Restored to a very high standard that has now mellowed with age, by a previous owner, it has been used on many Pioneer Runs since completion. Purchased by the late owner for his collection it has not been used for many years. It is believed to have last been used on the 75th Pioneer Run. This machine benefits from a Sturmey Archer three-speed hub. No documentation has been found and a V5C will have to be applied for through the V62 scheme. Recommissioning will be required on this machine. To be sold at 'no reserve'.
