Like a lot of British motorcycle pioneers, Ariel began producing bicycles in the late 1800s, progressing onto motorcycles in 1902. After a rocky patch in the 1930s, models like the Red Hunter proved to be such a success that it enabled Ariel to purchase Triumph motorcycles, eventually becoming part of the BSA group in 1951.
On offer is a 1926 Ariel Model A Sports, a fast machine of the time that was designed by Val Page for Ariel. This Model A was first registered on the 24th of March 1926 (99 years ago) from the Cheltenham Cycle Company, High Street, Cheltenham and was purchased by Maurice Watkins from Westbury-On-Severn Gloucestershire, where it was later sold to Mr Sydney Jennings also from Westbury-On-Severn. Mr. Jennings owned the Ariel for a few years before he sold it to a Mr Grindle who lived just down the road, still in Westbury-On -Severn, then in 1972 it was sold on and ended up in Verralls motorcycle dealers. Purchased by the current vendor in 2004 and for some reason, like his other machines, was placed in a shed to be discovered years later. The Ariel is offered with a current V5C and some handwritten notes.
