An opportunity to acquire a multi award winning 1964 1/ 2 Ford Mustang Convertible 260 V8 Auto. Fully restored in 2013/ 14, and comprehensively documented in monthly editions of Classic American Magazine, over the period September 2014, to November 2015. A complete binder of all the magazines it featured in comes with it alongside a detailed History File covering both its US and UK ownership and details of all restoration works, together with the original handbook showing the first owner in Ohio and the supplying Ford dealer Dan Rohyans, of Columbus Ohio.
This outstanding and very early Mustang is finished in rare Factory Silver Smoke Grey metallic with Black Bucket seats and interior. Factory optioned with Power Steering, Centre Console, Power Hood, New Brockley Tyres and a GT350 Air Cleaner, the original air cleaner comes with it.
The comprehensive restoration included the 260 V8 being rebuilt, a complete body restoration carried out and the interior and power hood replaced with new retractable seatbelts fitted. Particular attention was given to panel alignment involving several hundred hours of work resulting in probably the best presenting bodywork and panel gaps we have seen in any Mustang.
The 260cu in (4. 3 litre) engine has been fully overhauled including a re-bore to +30 thou, with new pistons and rings. The crankshaft was re-ground and polished to -10thou, and a new front balance pulley fitted, with the full rotating assembly balanced at Basset Down balancing in Hungerford. During this engine overhaul, new camshaft bearings were fitted, as well as an up- grade timing chain and oil pump drive shaft.
The oil, fuel and water pumps were replaced, as were the engine core plugs. The cylinder heads have been re-ground and new un-leaded valve seats fitted. The duel range, green dot transmission was rebuilt with a full kit and works well.
A simply exceptional very early Mustang which we are delighted to be able to offer again after its return to ourselves after some time in a private collection. A rare and beautiful car presenting in its pristine Silver Smoke paintwork and black interior making for one of the best combinations for a classic Mustang you could hope for.
