SUMMARY
In my opinion, the W211 was probably the last of the proper Mercedes, and still very much had that hewn from granite feel, something that has sadly disappeared from subsequent models. It’s also rare in that it was a significant improvement over its predecessor; the W210, which was a good car, but did have many foibles, the main being its propensity to corrode.
This particular W211 is among the last of this incarnation of the E-Class, and a special edition “Executive Edition” model. Being a late facelift car, it doesn’t suffer any of the well documented problems of the earlier (pre 2006) cars, the most significant of them being the SBC braking system; SBC was finally dropped from the W211 on the event of the post September 2006 (MY2007) and a more reliable system used. Also the event of that facelift saw build quality of the model significantly improve too, so these last of the line models are a real gem, with quality dare I say it similar to the legendary W124
I’ve actually been trying to buy this car for a while now. It belonged to a customer of mine, a local solicitor whose father bought it brand new from Mercedes-Benz of Bradford in 2009 for the not insignificant sum of £32, 000 (original purchase invoice included) This car has now covered a mere 67, 000 miles and has been looked after properly by initially the suppling dealer, then a specialist and comes with a stack of paperwork to substantiate that.
However, due to another car on the drive, and having been given his father’s Porsche, he reluctantly let it go, and at last its here with me now. I have to admit I’ve seriously thought about keeping this one myself as its everything you could ever want in a car, but its just too nice to use as I’d like.
So if you’re looking for a proper Mercedes with that old school feel, but with modern refinements and features, a late model W211 is a very intelligent buy right now, and these last of the line models are the ones to go for. Also this E280CDI comes with the superb OM642 V6, making it supremely smooth, very quick, but still returns excellent fuel economy. It’s a car that still oozes class in an understated way, but one that will happily rip of your face if you want it too. Most modern cars seem promise much, but deliver little. In stark contrast, the W211 does exactly the opposite to that.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
