Description
A fabulous 4 owner 2006 Cayman 2. 7 in Guards Red with gold wheels, ST56XBW also features what must be the shortest option list in modern Porsche history. I bet the salesman at Porsche Centre Edinburgh got a right ticking off from his manager for allowing such a thing to be ordered at all!
The original – and canny – long term owner deliberately specced his Cayman with just what he wanted and nothing else. Heated seats, cruise control and a top tinted windscreen, plus the no cost option of having the Cayman badge deleted from the rear boot lid. Total spend on options? £537. 02 + VAT, which must be some kind of record. And he had the standard 17″ wheels repainted gold in 2010, well over a decade before they became de rigeur on the latest GT3 press cars from Porsche Cars GB.
What Mr Hunter unwittingly (…or intentionally) created is a lightweight, driver focussed Cayman with no fripperies, bells or whistles. The standard Alcantara seats grip you tightly, the standard 17″ wheels with relatively high profile, narrow tyres provide just the right balance of roadholding with uncanny ride comfort and feel through the standard three spoke steering wheel – no multifunction buttons or switches, just a round wheel…you know, for steering. The marketing department at Porsche should seriously think about promoting such a no frills, driver-focussed offering…you never know, it might catch on.
The service history is all Porsche from new to 2017, when the original owner sold the car to the chap I first bought it from, a serial Porsche owner and fellow PCGB member from Cornwall. He used a couple of trusted local garages to continue the maintenance of the car, including replacement of the aluminium crossover pipes and coolant hoses in October 2020 at 83, 198 miles, and replacement of the clutch, dual mass flywheel, RMS and IMS seal in November 2021 at 83, 211 miles.
This is a stunning car to drive, an absolute benchmark for ride and handling. Agile and surefooted, with perfectly matched control weights – steering, clutch, gearchange, brakes all working in harmony to deliver a spectacular driving experience. You need to try it to believe it – it is a world away from most modern “sports cars” with their artificially weighted steering, over servo’ed brakes and nannying control systems.
We originally sold this car in August 2021 to a chap working as an engineer at Rolls Royce Motor Cars in Chichester, who has kept up the maintenance using a local Porsche specialist, including a Major service and brake fluid change in May 2023. He sold it back to us in 2023 having bought a speedboat, and it swiftly found a home with a local customer here in Devon. He is now relocating hence the car coming back into stock. We have just completed a Minor service and brake fluid change.
Please call Sean on the details below for more information, and to try and persuade him not to buy this one for himself!
