EXTERIOR
It is over 40 years since the world first laid eyes on the 512; the evolution of the 365 BB which was the marque’s first mid-engine Supercar. A revised chin spoiler to improve aerodynamics, alongside NACA ducts in the rear quarter to aid cooling, are complimented by twin tail lights and exhaust pipes each side instead of triple units as on the 365. Two tier paintwork, with crackled clack sills in this case, blistered arches and the unmistakable wedge profile represent a pinnacle for Pininfarina in period. The compact nature of the design draws attention to the raked front end with an utterly gorgeous pop up headlamp / statement orange indicator and front grille arrangement, whilst a minimal rear over-hang houses those renowned round lamps set in mesh.

Magnificent and menacing in Nero, the car was subject to a comprehensive restoration 10 years ago and has covered minimal mileage since.

INTERIOR
Fit and finish of this Boxer has stood the test of time and aged remarkably well thanks to a combination of fastidious ownership and careful upkeep. The typical Italian leather smell and patina maintains a strong and lasting presence with dash top and leather door cards retaining a smooth and soft texture. The seats maintain good structure and support having been treated and maintained whilst the headlining is taught with no holes or marks. The magnificent period Veglia dials are unmistakable, the switch gear clean and tidy and the dogleg open gate pride of place.

Originality is key here with even the factory stereo equalizer still present!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Tipo F110 A engine now incorporates Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection as a BBi model, alongside a revised cam timing and ignition system, which ultimately ensures the BBi is the most approachable and driveable of the series.

Opening up the huge rear clam shell reveals an engine bay that is absolutely a work of art, one will spend as much time admiring it as you would the exterior. Sound on start up evokes all kinds of wonderful Italian history – the controls are heavy when cold, but as the car goes through it’s warm up routine this Ferrari offers generous torque with layers of sound throughout the rev range.

The last recent service with Keys Motorsport included replacement of the cambelts, alongside tensioner bearings, as well as all fluids, filters and plugs.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Arguably one of the finest OEM wheel designs the elegant 5 spoke rims are attached via a ‘waffle’ plate and heavy duty chrome spinners; all of which present with a gleaming chrome finish. The wheels benefit from the 9 inch option at the rear; a win-win from a dynamic / aesthetic outlook. Wearing correct Michelin TRX, the tyres display plenty of tread given these have only just been replaced.

Brakes are in good order; easy to modulate and up to the performance demands.

HISTORY FILE
An EU supplied car to Zurich, this fabulous 512 was soon delivered to Chicago after covering a mere 2, 889 km to Illinois in the US. With an extensive history file, outlining various works carried out to ensure mechanicals and cosmetics were always maintained to the highest standard, the car would go on to achieve multiple car club and concours wins and in this time cover just 32, 000 miles.

Having led a pampered life with a prominent collector for a number of years the car would return to the UK before being sent to Toni Auto of Maranello for an inspection and overhaul in 2015, Toni Auto is a well known family business with close ties to the factory. The car has since covered less than 600 miles as shown by its zero’d odometer.

After careful use and sympathetic storage over recent years the car presents in superb condition and looks absolutely sublime in Black over Black. The original book pack is accounted for as well as a whole host of invoicing and paperwork from new.
