Somehow the description “Mini 1000 City E” doesn’t quite get to the essence of ‘UWE 12Y,’ such are the extent of the upgrades that have been lavished on this Mini. ‘UWE 12Y’ arrives from a period of long term ownership of over 10 years and presents in a full competition specification. As such ‘UWE 12Y’ will lend itself to a range of competitive endeavours or, as it is road registered, for fast road use. Top amongst ‘UWE 12Y’s’ long list of quality specification enhancements must be the 1330cc competition engine which has covered just 500 miles since it was newly fitted. Other extensive enhancements have been made to every aspect of this Mini. Judging by its windscreen sticker it has competed under FIA regulations before so represents a great opportunity to acquire a competition focussed Mini. ‘UWE 12Y’ is now MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax. It was last MOT’d as recently as 2023, however, and gained an advisory free pass at 68, 863 miles.
‘UWE 12Y’s’ new engine is a 1330cc unit fitted with a Weber single 40 side draught carburettor and a Mangoletsi throttle linkage. The cylinder head is a big valve version with roller rockers and a Kent 286 camshaft. The block is located using Minisport engine steadies and stabiliser bracket. The exhaust manifold is big bore item with accompanying big bore centre exit system. Reportedly the shell was prepared around 5 years ago courtesy of a complete strip down and a new front end. A fibreglass bonnet, boot and lightened doors were also fitted at this stage together with polycarbonate windows with door sliders. ‘UWE 12Y’ was treated to a complete rewire at this stage and the brake and fuel lines renewed and internally routed. Other key mechanical enhancements include Gaz adjustable shock absorbers and variable tie bars as well as Cooper S discs and callipers on the front. The rear brakes feature Minisport backplates and shoe assemblies with Superfin drums. These hide behind 6J x 10-inch Revolite alloys shod with Yokohama A008 165/ 80 tyres.
Internally, ‘UWE 12Y’ is clearly configured for competition. A Safety Devices bolt in, multipoint item and the STR race seats and harnesses were accredited until 2023 but appear hardly used. A deeply dished, quick release race steering wheel is also fitted. The vendor rates every aspect of ‘UWE 12Y’ as “good.”
In summary:
· An extensively modified, competition focussed Mini ready for a range of disciplines
· Benefitting from a new, heavily upgraded engine just 500 miles ago
· Road registered and now MOT and VED exempt due to Historic Vehicle status
