A replacement for the 170 Series, 'Ponton' (German for Pontoon, a reference to the styling) saloons were introduced in 1953, remaining the mainstay of M-B production until 1960
For 1956, the 220 became the 220S with twin Solex carburettors and 100bhp
This handsome example was imported from the US in 2014 and is now registered with a V5C
Sensibly upgraded with a later 250S 2. 5-litre engine for added performance
Superbly presented exterior in gleaming Maroon enhanced by a silver cap
Equally impressive interior fully retrimmed in tan leather with new carpets and headlining
Now running on slightly later and more aesthetically pleasing Mercedes 14" wheels
Maintained as required by its current fastidious owner, with recent works including a rebuilt rear axle, replacement clutch, brake overhaul including a new servo and a new exhaust
Accompanied by a comprehensive history file including various invoices and associated items
Beautifully made, these late 1950s cars are great entry level classics that can be enjoyed by the whole family
