Another car we’ve been fortunate to sell a couple of times before, LX56BZE is a fantastic example of the 987 Gen 1 Cayman 2. 7 presented in Arctic Silver with black leather, with a great driver-focussed specification and the benefit of an upgraded suspension setup thanks to the Bilstein B6 dampers fitted by a previous owner in 2018.
Now showing 84, 932 miles, the car has a full service history from Porsche and respected Porsche specialists, and features the following factory fitted options – sports seats, Sport Chrono with a black faced stopwatch, extended leather to the dashboard and door panels, ParkAssistant, 18″ Cayman S 987. 1 5-spoke alloy wheels, grained leather steering wheel with round centre, and the car has been recently fitted with a double DIN touchscreen ATOTO head unit with DAB, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, plus uprated speakers.
On the road LX56BZE drives superbly, the 245bhp 2. 7 litre flat-six providing ample performance and a stirring sound track. The steering is precise and full of feel as only a good hydraulic system can be, but the highlight is the handling and ride quality delivered by the uprated Bilstein B6 “monotube” dampers. They are slightly firmer than standard, but the level of control and suppleness has to be experienced first hand.
When we prepared the car for sale in May 2022 at 81, 680 miles, we carried out a Major service, brake fluid change, and fitted new spark plugs and auxiliary drive belt. In addition we replaced the alloy crossover pipes and rubber coolant hoses at the front of the car – these are notorious for corrosion between the alloy pipes and steel push-fit connectors on the rubber coolant hoses – every 987 Boxster and Cayman will need this doing at some point, and it is a difficult job that can be expensive (I have seen bills for well over £1, 000 for this). Last time we sold the car in July 2024 we replaced the AC condensers and recharged the system, and carried out a Minor service and brake fluid change. The last owner fitted the hifi, a short shifter and the LED running lights to the front bumper during his 6 month tenure, before buying a Lotus Evora and offering LX56BZE back to us.
Although the 2. 7 engine in the Cayman is known to be very reliable, we have also carried out a precautionary bore scope inspection, which the car passed with flying colours, with absolutely no sign of any scoring on the cylinder walls.
