Description
History:
In 1952, Triumph presented the TR1, the first vehicle in the TR series, which marked the start of a success story for the British sports car manufacturer. This was immediately followed by the TR2, and from 1955 the 100hp TR3, which weighed just under 900kg, was built. The TR4 followed from 1961 to 1965, still with the 4-cylinder engine. The first Triumph designed by an Italian (Giovanni Michelotti). A newly developed 6-cylinder engine was installed in the same vehicle, which was installed in the most successful of all Triumphs, the TR6. The TR6 was presented in 1968 and surprised with its design from Karmann. VW's actual in-house coachbuilder also favoured the new angular design language for the sporty Brit. By 1976, 96, 619 examples of the TR6 had been built, which was offered in power levels from 98 hp to 150 hp (PI injection). This model was first registered in the USA in 1971. Stricter regulations applied in the USA than in Europe, which is why only low-maintenance carburettor engines with less power were delivered there. The engine output of these export vehicles varied from 100 to 125 hp. According to the vehicle registration document, this export model was delivered with the most powerful engine variant. This TR6 was regularly driven and constantly maintained by its previous Swiss owner. In all these years, no investment was made in the cosmetics and overall appearance of the sports roadster. Goodtimer has taken care of this. With an effort of over 150 hours and costs of more than CHF 20, 000, this solid and very honest specimen was given a refit in the winter of 2024/ 25, which will remain with the new owner for many years to come.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The paintwork has been freshly refurbished and preserved. A touch-up of the paintwork is visible here and there, but this cannot even be described as patina. The bodywork is undamaged and in immaculate condition, free of body filler. The soft top and the linkage have been completely renewed and restored.
Interior:
The new, high-quality genuine leather seats, the chic wooden steering wheel to match the dashboard and the fresh carpeting emphasise the well-kept and homely overall appearance.
Engine and mechanics:
The engine has excellent performance values and the carburettors have been freshly overhauled, meaning that the car passes the MFK test without any faults.
Chassis:
Shock absorbers and brakes were also renewed, which was completed with the new spoke wheels and fresh Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.
Driving experience:
A unique soundscape from the in-line six-cylinder engine accompanies the driver in this 2-seater, which provides unrestricted driving pleasure. The suspension allows a comfortable driving style, which also makes it suitable for long journeys. A vehicle like this must be experienced once in a lifetime. Anyone who has one will only give it back after many years.
Recommendation:
The Triumph TR6 is regarded as one of the last genuine British sports roadsters, which will increase in value in the medium term. And it is worth it.
