Description

The first Lotus Seven was introduced way back in 1957 followed by the series 2 in 1960 and the series 3 in 1968. The finally edition series 4 was launched in May 1970 and ran for three years until Caterham took over the S4 production, however this ceased in 1974 and Caterham re introduced the series 3 which is the basis of all Caterham 7’s today.
Although the series 3 had a short production life of just two years with only aprox 340 being made it is considered by aficionado’s to be the best example of the evolution.
According to the Historic Lotus Seven Register this is the last series 3 built, being registered new May 1st 1970. Purchased in kit form from Lotus Components Ltd with a 1600 GT Ford ‘Crossflow’ engine that was also supplied by Lotus subsidiary - Racing Engines of Hethel.
This truly excellent example was restored by an engineer and Lotus specialist in 2020 and remains in fantastic condition. Still fitted with its original engine fed by twin Weber carbs and 4-speed gearbox it sits on the original Ford wheels and has its original Ford steering wheel. The attention to detail of this car led it to be featured in Absolute Lotus magazine buyer’s guide as the example car, a copy of this article is supplied along with a history file that also contains the original bills of sale, a buff logbook and invoices for a recent service and MoT until July 2025.
This outstanding and historically significant Lotus is in great running order and is supplied with a tonneau cover and full weather equipment. It must be among the very best examples currently on offer.
