Description
Reluctantly, I have to sell my much-cherished 2a as I am moving abroad. The vehicle has been prepared for an expedition to a new country in Central Asia which has now unfortunately brought in new regs, forbidding import of RHD vehicles.
Demobbed from Army in 1971, the vehicle was first owned by Benetton Racing, who put in the very smooth 2. 5l 17H petrol engine and S3 gearbox. They also put in the one piece windscreen and 3rd wiper (!), and double driving lights in wing and center. I have owned the vehicle for past 15 years, dry-stored. All in all, a great runner. Chassis and bulkhead are sound with no apparent rust or welding.
Vehicle is dual fuel, unleaded petrol and LPG.
Factory installed Fairy overdrive and AWD freewheel front hubs.
Currently has station wagon hard top but comes with all fitting and canvas for “bikini” soft top, easily swapped over for great summer motoring!
In expedition preparation, the vehicle has a number of upgrades:
Kenlowe electric fan
New aluminium underseat petrol tanks
New 4-core Allisport all-aluminium radiator
QH headlights
LED side and rear lights
All new brake system (hoses, drums, cylinders, and DOT 5. 0 fluid)
New clutch master and slave cylinders
Galvanised door tops
Powerspark electronic ignition
SU carb refurbished by specialist (Richard Bros, Redruth)
SU fuel pump refurbished
New prop shafts and rear diff bearing
S-steel exhaust system
Noisekiller acoustic deadening system
USB power ports front and rear, GPS speedo.
Defender front seats with Exmoor Trim covers and door card pockets
Many other subtle refinements and many spares available. This is a very reliable and versatile vehicle. I put on the hard top for selling, but past 5 years I have had only the "bikini" canvas roof on. It is an absolute pleasure bowling along the lanes of Cornwall, wind in your hair, enjoying driving this classic masterpiece!
