Description
Here we have a fantastic 1975 VW Sunshine Beetle that is sure to turn heads wherever it may take you.
This Sunshine Bug is one of circa. 600 of this “close-out” edition manufactured with less being built for the UK market. This Sunshine Bug, registered on the 3rd of October 1975, has had only four keepers in total, the last owning the vehicle since 1999.
Manufactured solely in 1975, the Sunshine Bug featured a curious mixture of components and equipment levels. Based on the 1975 UK market flat screen 1300cc, factory-fitted equipment included a padded dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel, a heated rear window, rubber bumper trims, a steel sliding roof and 15-inch Lemmerz sports-style wheels. The edition was available in two colours, Sonnengelb and Nepalorange, this one is presented in the latter. This Bug also features aftermarket Lucas spotlights, a transparent bonnet guard and front and rear arch stone guards.
The bodywork is in good, usable condition, with no signs of corrosion, but it is unfortunately showing areas of microblistering. However, the way the orange paintwork stands out makes it one to catch the eye. The Lemmerz wheels have been restored and are in good condition.
The interior, which is a mixture of grey and black cloth, presents in very good condition with no tears. The light headliner is a great contrast and creates an airy cabin space.
Mechanically, the car has been kept very well throughout its years, having the original service book and additional journal from the previous owner. The previous owner stated that the car had been sat for some years before having a recommission by Pratt & Gelsthorpe, which included new brake shoes all around, a new fuel tank, new high tension leads and a new distributor.
Upon arrival, the car has had a full service at 181 Classic Motors, Volkswagen specialists, including a new fuel pump, filter and hoses; new air hose and air box, new points and condenser and a carburettor rebuild as well as refreshed fluids and filters. The Bug is now running lovely and is ready to go.
The history file that accompanies the Bug makes for good reading, more early years than recent, but that has been the same with regards to use. With lots of previous receipts, MOT certificates, the original books, service journal and lots of notes and letters from a previous owner (1981-1999) its a great accompanyment to this fine little Bug.
Sold with a full MOT, this Bug is destined for its next adventure. Please contact us today if you would like to find out more or book a viewing at our showroom - our coffee pot is always hot.
