Description
During Alejandro De Tomaso’s years of ownership, Maserati refined further its interplay of performance with luxury with the Biturbo series. Based on Giulio Alfieri’s Formula One design, the 90-degree V configured 6-cylinder 2. 0 lt DOHC 18-valve carburetted engine was the first twin turbocharged powerplant to be fitted in a production vehicle. The sharp yet sporty, aggressive yet sophisticated shape was scuptured in 1981 by Maserati’s Pierangelo Andreani to be retouched in 1987 by Marcelo Gandini. Concurrently, its 2. 0lt version was further developed to feature 4 camshafts, reduced friction cylinder linings, a Weber-Marelli injection module and 24 valves to a massive 241 bhp and 296 Nm output. Officially unveiled in 1989 the 2. 24v body received aerodynamic upgrades including wrap around bumpers with integrated foglights and airducts to intercoolers, extended side skirts, rear mounted high speed spoiler and room for 4 exhaust tips. Further treated with a 2-tone paint scheme and 15inch disc shaped wheels, the 2. 24v was created to stand as a clear statement of Maserati’s enthusiasm over its new quad cam 24 valve technology. As only 1147 units were produced between 1989 and 1991, the 2. 24v is a rare and sought after cornerstone in Maserati’s Biturbo era.
The 2. 24v offered was produced in Black over Grey body and Grey Alcantara with leather interior to feature the optional Active Damping Control System. After 23000 km it was stored over a decade to be fully recommissioned with a full engine and clutch overhaul with NOS parts by classic Maserati experts. The underbody was treated to dry ice maintenance and the paint to a full detail. Notably it still retains its factory fitted protective covers on its door cards and side sills. It is now offered in impeccable mechanical and cosmetic condition with only 25296 km on the clock.
