1970 Ford Capri 1. 6 GT XLR. First registered September 1970 by Overseas Cars Ltd, Ford Agent in Fulham Road , London SW6. Its only had 4 owners, 2 of which were in the same family and covered a mere 52000 miles. We have a laminated copy of the original bill of sale with the car. It changed owners within the same family in 1986. In 1999 it was subject to an article in the Sun Newspaper with a reporter and Denise Van Outen. A copy of the article also comes with the car. It was also featured in Classic Cars magazine in October 2000, which again is with the car. The current owner bought it from Affordable Classics 25 years ago and has looked after it since.
Also with the car is details of the 1st and 2nd owner, old V5, current V5, lots of old MOTs and Tax discs, receipts for work done over the years, the original handbook and service book with 5 stamps. We have two spare sets of keys as well. What a great looking and very original old car. its never been welded at all but has had the paint refreshed. We are not sure when but it was prior to 2000. Its still holding up really well.
Body - All original metalwork as far as we can see. Never been welded underneath. Extremely solid car from front to back. The black bonnet , driving lights and black below the side mouldings are how it came from new. That was part to the Rally pack Im told which is what the R in XLR stands for. It says Rally on the build plate as well. Paintwork still looks really good. There are a couple of very minor bubbles on scuttle and osf wing but the owner tells me they have not gotten any worse in the last 20 years as he has always garaged it and its not been out in bad weather etc. Underbonnet and in the boot its still its original paint. The original VIN number and plates are all in place. Bumpers and chrome trim are all really good
Interior - All original and in very good order. Seats are cracking condition. Rears look virtually unused. Dash is good. Door cards are excellent. Headlining is also really good.
Mechanics - All its original running gear , including engine and box. The engine is as quiet a crossflow as Ive ever heard. It starts no problem, has its original manual choke still fitted. Gearbox, clutch and brakes are all good. The car drives like an 18 month old car, not a 55 year old one.
Wheels - 5 Original Rostyles in good order with good tyres
