This incredibly correct, low mileage Jaguar E-Type V12 Roadster returns to us form one of our regular customers and we are delighted to offer it back onto the market. DWA 580N has covered just 52, 000 miles from new, and was manufactured on the 29th January 1974 finished in Dark Blue with Russet Red upholstery and manual transmission. This matching numbers UK car, still retaining its original registration mark was supplied new by Ernest W Hatfield in Sheffield to a Company, Trafford Thermoplastics Ltd.
This very late E-Type was one of the last 150 RHD E-Type Roadsters ever built, and it has been superbly preserved over the last 51 years. The E-Type spent its early life in the North of England being owned by R E Dickie Ltd in Halifax, a West Yorkshire based Textiles business. Letters on file confirm the Halifax based industrialists owned the car from almost new, and MOT certificates show the V12 was in regular use up to 1982 with 32273 miles. Mileage then steadily increased to 36000 by the time its long-term owner parted with the car in 1990.
The Jaguars new owner of 1990, based in Sicklinghall North Yorkshire, commissioned a restoration program with a Yorkshire based classic car restoration company. The E-Type was completely stripped down to a bare rolling shell with engine, front space frame, doors and boot lid removed. The bodyshell was taken back to bare metal, any necessary repairs carried out and then treated to a complete professional re-paint. The E-Type was built up with renewed brightwork, chrome wire wheels and the upholstery re-trimmed as per original with a new mohair hood.
Mechanically the V12 was overhauled, various suspension, braking and steering system work was carried out, a new stainless steel exhaust system with manifolds fitted, the manual gearbox treated to new seals as required, the low mileage V12 engine was treated to a new rear oil seal, new timing chain, fully checked over, carburettors were rebuilt, and the engine unit re-fitted to a rebuilt engine bay with new clutch assembly. Pages of invoices detail all replaced components to include rebuilt radiator, rebuilt heater box, rebuilt air vent controls and duct pipes and cables, all new coolant hoses, power steering pipes, powder coated suspension components and much more. All work has been superbly documented with invoices and photo album. After four years of ownership and minimal mileage, the E-Type was sold and left Yorkshire for Manchester where it spent nine years covering 2000 miles taking the mileage to 38000. Over the nine years the E-Type was impeccably maintained with invoices on file for various expenditure and upkeep. Notable expenditure in this period was on the braking system. In 2003 DWA 580N headed to the Newport area of South Wales and it was this owner who really started to get some mileage covered once again.
From 2003 to 2017 the E-Type covered over 10, 000 miles taking the mileage to 49, 500 before parting with the car after 14 years. From 2017 to 2021 the E-Type was part of an impressive collection in Lincolnshire. The E-Type shared a stable with some of the most prestigious marques and had occasional good weather. The car the came to us in part exchange and we supplied the car to the most recent owner based near Barnard Castle. Prior to delivery we diligently prepared the car to include a full service, new cam cover gaskets, new hub seals, an antifreeze flush, new clutch salve and master cylinder, carb rebuild, and supplied new exterior door handles. Shortly after this, the E-Type was fitted with a brand new mohair hood.
