1982 Morgan 4/ 4 Four-Seater
The quintessential British Sports Car – The Morgan is probably one of the most widely recognised cars on our roads with a heritage dating back to 1909 and still being built in Malvern.
The first four wheeled Morgan was produced in 1936, designated ‘4/ 4’. The great success with three wheelers had encouraged a move to embrace the requirements for a larger car which would be ideal for the sporting motorist needing a more conventional vehicle. The new four wheeled Morgan used a Coventry Climax engine until 1939, when this was superseded by a 1267cc Standard ohv unit. Also, at this time, a Moss gearbox replaced the earlier Meadows unit.
From 1937 a four-seat version was available, as was a Drophead coupe from 1938, which was reintroduced immediately after the war and was available until 1950.
During the post war era, Ford engines became the normal fitment - initially the 100E side valve unit, however this was soon replaced by the ohv 997cc Anglia power unit.
By 1968, the 4/ 4 was to benefit from the 1600cc unit and also a small number were powered by Fiat’s twin cam engine. During March 1982 the Ford CVH engine became available, giving the 4/ 4 brisk performance allied to good fuel economy.
Strikingly finished in a most attractive shade of blue, this example of the 4/ 4 Four-Seater was acquired by its owner just over 10 years ago from Morgan specialists Allon White & Son of Cranfield. It has been sparingly used whilst in this ownership.
There are various bills on file, along with a recently renewed MOT certificate valid until March 2026, together with the Driver’s Handbook.
The Rostyle wheels are an original fitment, giving the car a most distinctive look.
