Summary
Step back in time with this 1980 Ford Cortina GL 1. 6; the 70’s style combined with Ford’s reliability, practicality, comfort and affordability made these a popular sight on the UK roads for years. Fast forward 45 years and you can add retro cool to that list, there is just something about a classic Ford that makes them ever popular with classic car enthusiasts. Take one to a classic car show, car meet, drive out or just to the shops and there’s always somebody who wants to talk about it, if you want to arrive anywhere un-noticed a classic Ford is not the car for you!
This example, whilst perfectly useable as it is, offers the chance to make improvements and we have decided to err on the side of caution, calling it a ‘recommissioning project’.
The 1600 engine fires up first time and it starts, runs, changes gear and stops, we aren’t sure when it was last attended to mechanically so would assume a recommission and service are now due.
Whilst the odometer shows 36, 000 miles the electronic DVLA MOT records confirm it has done 136, 000 and that it was in regular use and MOT’d annually from 2006 – 2016, with the last MOT test in 2018, when it also had a colour change from Beige to Yellow (correctly registered).
The interior is finished in brown cloth and is in extraordinary condition, belying the 136, 000 miles its covered, and maintaining all its original features and character.
