We are delighted to present for sale this 1977 Series 3 Land Rover®, finished in this rare to see and popular Mid-Grey colour combination with Limestone Wheels and Sand Canvas. As the “featured” paragraph above shows – this truck is absolutely loaded with all the extras one might want… read on below.

Externally, as the photos show, this Series 3 is a real head turner with a tasteful blend of period features and modern upgrades – the vintage number plates, rear grab handles, defender style door mirrors for better visibility, side steps for easier access, towbar and electrics to allow towing, etc etc. This is finished off with a new sand canvas and a brand new set of 5 matching 750 chevron tyres, which give a positive stance along with improving gearing whilst driving – as we are sure any discerning buyer would agree, it is very much a complete package and looks just right when out on the road and parked up in the Market Square.

On the inside, there are three front deluxe seats, along with deluxe matting to the footwells. A seat belt bar has been fitted to give both outer front passengers inertia reel “plug and play” belts with the middle seat benefitting from a centre lap belt. Front side steps allow easy access for the driver and passenger. The rear is fitted with twin bench seats meaning seating for seven occupants including the driver, and a load mat is fitted to the floor area to protect against scratches. Should rear seat belts be required, these can be fitted for £195 per belt up to a maximum of four. It is nice to note these bench seats can also be folded away to expose the entire load space for going shopping, carrying the dog, the push bikes, logs etc etc. The cabin is a great place to be – particularly if you fold the sides and rear of the canvas up and head out for a blast – giving all the family ‘wind in your hair’ motoring.

Out on the road is where the upgrades really make a difference though – this Series 3, despite its exemption, has an MOT with no advisories until early June 2025 – very difficult to achieve in a vehicle as old as this…. and this is why upgrades such as the seat belt bar are fitted, to conform to modern regulations. The petrol engine is a joy and starts with minimal choke, and thanks to a new Weber carburettor, increased power is achieved which allows the driver to exploit the extra gearing and more relaxed cruise afforded through the fitment of those 750 tyres. When behind the wheel, it has the feeling of really wanting to “go” and encouraging you to press on with that raspy exhaust tone. Free Wheeling Hubs maximise economy and reduce the chance of front axle wear and risk of diff wind-up. The biggest compliment we can give this Series 3 is that she goes as good as she looks! It even has a spare set of keys, which is particularly unusual to see – handy for a spouse, partner or emergency.

In summary then, if you are looking for a ragtop Series 3 for the upcoming warmer weather that can carry the whole family, then this could be for you. With the added benefit of Tax & MOT Exemption alongside Classic Insurance, it should prove cost-effective and as hassle free as possible to run, whilst those mechanical upgrades make driving more palatable and more enjoyable. It is uncommon for us to see all these upgrades worked into one package to create a very enjoyable Series to live with and own, and that is the most attractive thing of all.
