Ok who can remember learning to fall off one of these while attempting the self-built jump ramp you made in the yard ? Great fun retro twin shock trials bike in brilliant all-round condition, complete with the now rare full road kit, plus a logbook and an all clear HPI.
Yamaha had much success developing competitive trials machines in the 1970s and 1980s, following countless wins in road and motocross spheres. Under the supervision of Mick Andrews, the TY was a very popular machine and proved a massive hit in the UK following the Scottish Six Days Trial. Powered by a 171cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder, this example dates from 1978, it’s a matching numbers bike and is ready to be enjoyed today.
Still got its tool kit tucked under the front of the tank, still has its Autolube fuel mixing tank, it’s got a working speedo showing an unconfirmed 744 miles plus the road headlight (with stone guard) and rear light & number bracket, these kits where always taken off and discarded and are now fairly rare, I spoke to someone the other day who has one of these light set’s in a box but he has no idea where the box is.
It starts easily and runs well, very good brakes, good tyres, good seat, all round very tidy and working well bike, there will be the odd part, nut or washer that wasn’t fitted when it left the factory and the commentors will let you all know how good they are at spotting them, we are not claiming it’s the best factory original bike ever to survive, we are claiming it’s a great fun, very complete 70’s retro throwback trials bike.
So, if you fancy testing how supple your knees still are, reckon you can still wake up ache free the morning after chasing the sheep over the moor on it for an hour or so, fancy your chances in a classic twin shock trial event or maybe just fancy a pootle about and have it to admire every time you go in the garage, get it in touch.
