Description
Pininfarina's Historical Archive confirms that this Fiat Dino Spider 2000 left Pininfarina's production line on May 12, 1967, finished in its current red with a black interior, destined for Europe. The body/ assembly matches their records. A rare and highly sought-after classic, the Fiat Dino Spider 2000 was produced between 1966 and 1969 as part of Fiat’s collaboration with Ferrari. Powered by a 2. 0-liter V6 engine developed by Ferrari, this iconic roadster delivers around 135 horsepower, offering a thrilling driving experience that perfectly blends Italian design and Ferrari performance.
Finding its way to the dry climate of Los Angeles from where it was purchased brought to the UK in 2015 by Iain Tyrell of Cheshire Classics for its previous owner. Upon inspection in 2020, it was discovered that although the car had spent time in the dry climate of Los Angeles, the floor pan had been poorly repaired, and the recently rebuilt engine was producing an unsettling noise, requiring further attention.
Iain Tyrell took charge of a comprehensive restoration, stripping and rebuilding the engine. During this process, several performance upgrades were implemented, including the installation of stainless steel exhaust valves, high-performance pistons, camshafts, and valve springs, significantly improving both the car’s performance and reliability. Additionally, the floor pan was completely removed and replaced with a newly fabricated one, seam-welded into place to ensure the car’s structural integrity.
Before arriving in the UK, the Fiat Dino Spider had already received a new interior in the USA, which remains in excellent condition today. In 2023, the car was sent to Kent-based Dino specialists for further servicing, including an overhaul of the propshaft. Later that year, a custom stainless steel exhaust system was installed, further enhancing the car’s driving experience.
This Fiat Dino Spider 2000 is a beautifully restored, solid example of this rare model. Combining Ferrari's engineering with Fiat's timeless Italian styling, it is not only a reliable and powerful driving machine but also a true collector’s gem. With its superb restoration and recent upgrades, this Dino Spider is an ideal investment for any classic car enthusiast or collector.
