Description
SLJ Hackett is delighted to offer for sale, 405P, OLW 710 has been in the ownership of one family from 1971 to present time.
It was used regularly for 15 years, after which it was stored with occasional starts and runs around the garden until 2005 when it was put back on the road again. 405P was first registered on 2nd March 1954 and retained by Bristol Aeroplane Company and later Bristol Cars until January 1956. During that period, it was used as the development mule for the 406, which means it has the wide track Salisbury rear axle including Watts linkage location and disc-brakes all round.
In addition, several engines were tested in the vehicle the last and current being the Sports engine BB6, 2. 2 litre, which includes an interesting cooling arrangement believed to have been developed for the 450 Bristol race engines, which works very well.
405P has a slightly different body shape to the production vehicles; for instance the rear wings stretch forward across the trailing edge of the rear door line and the rear door windows had curved rather than straight edges, and behind the bonnet there is a fresh air intake to the cabin as per 404.
On the road, 405P is a joy to drive and more than capable of keeping pace with regular traffic on motorways, however, it’s most enjoyable on fast country roads where it’s very sure footed, urging the driver to press on, which I’m sure is largely owing to the excellent location of the rear axle via the Watt’s linkage system, the excellent Bristol chassis and Pirelli Cinturato 185 VR16’s all round.
