These cars have amazing performance
Specialist supplier to the Wolseley 1500 and Riley One-point-five models states as follows that he “fitted all the period accessories for the previous owner – external sun visor, extra lamps.” He states that “Structurally this 1500 is perfect – and the outer panels, including the all-important sills are all original metal. The paintwork is faultless.” Around the time of the sale, he says he “fitted a new hessian back carpet set. The previous owner later added over mats in red from Andy’s carpet supplier. The leather seats are in lovely condition. Good luck with your viewing of this car - you will not be disappointed. The seller will provide details of who I am.”
This car is that good...
Wolseley 1500 history
Wolseley re-entered the smaller car market by introducing a new “luxury compact” - developed originally as a natural successor to the Morris Minor, having made use of many Morris Minor parts including the floorpan, suspension, steering. In the event, the Morris Minor proved to be such a success that it was continued until 1971, leaving the 1500 in Wolseley and Riley forms as more of a “sports saloon” with some performance – with a production run from 1957 to 1965 with the 1, 489CC B-Series engine with the MG Magnette gearbox
With leather seating for four, a classy walnut veneer dash, provision for a radio speaker , good luggage space and excellent pace and performance for the era, the Wolseley 1500 sold very well, with 103, 394 Wolseley 1500s manufactured between 1957-64
Using a single SU carburettor with 7. 2:1 low compression ratio (7. 2:1), only 43bhp at 4, 200 rpm was originally produced, raised to 52 bhp by the end of the model’s run, with 60-70 mph cruising – fast at the time and ideal for today’s enthusiasts.
