Description
HISTORY As the successor to the legendary Aurelia, Lancia presented the Flaminia at Geneva in 1957 with an advanced transaxle concept. The Flaminia was also immediately presented with power-assisted disc brakes on all sides and the excellent De Dion rear axle. Lancia allowed itself the luxury of offering several coupé versions built by Pininfarina, Carrozzeria Touring and Zagato for the two-door variants. The Touring version, with its 'Superleggera' aluminium bodywork, is reminiscent of the Maserati 3500. The Lancia Touring GT (=Gran Turismo) was aimed at the affluent middle class, for whom a Maserati or Ferrari GT was simply too expensive. Thanks to its aluminium cladding, the Touring Flaminia is very light (1350 kg unladen weight) and achieves surprising values for the time. Particularly popular is the version with three carburettors and the 2. 5-litre high-revving engine with 140 hp. This engine, combined with a very harmonious 5-speed gearbox, has an easy life with this Lancia. Auto, Motor und Sport was enthusiastic about the Lancia Touring GT during a test in 1960 and counted it among the best production sports cars. This Flaminia was produced in Milan by Carrozzeria Touring in 1961, benefited from a restoration in the past and has been very well maintained since then. The bodywork is in good condition with thin, correctly aligned panels. The chassis is also sound and free of rust. The paintwork is clean and has only a few minor imperfections. The interior has recently been replaced with brown leather and new carpets. Presented in a stunning cream colour with tan interior, registered in Italy, it would make a wonderful addition to any group of sought-after Italian classic cars and a charismatic companion for weekends and car show visits.
