HISTORY: The intrinsic beauty of the Jaguar E-Type is legendary and it is one of the few cars to have been exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art. Production of the car began in 1961 and was initially equipped with a 3. 8-litre overhead six-cylinder engine. The styling, by Malcolm Sayer and overseen by company founder Sir William Lyons, evolved from the Le Mans-winning D-Type racing car. The E-Type's structure consisted of a multi-tube front end bolted to a steel body. The long, low bonnet and front wings were a single unit and hinged at the front to allow unimpeded access to the engine. Introduced in 1964, the oversized 4. 2-litre straight-six had 265 horsepower and was capable of taking the car from 0 to 60 mph in 7. 4 seconds, with a top speed of 149 mph and incredible style and comfort. OUR CAR: Built in 1967 and shipped new to Jaguar New York, this stunning example was first sold to its first owner in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Not long afterwards (only 5 years) the car was sold to its second owner, with whom it remained until 2007, when it was offered for sale on eBay motors as a complete working example, still finished in its original Opalescent Silver Blue colour and with the totally original leather interior. The car was then sold in Europe, where it underwent a complete restoration of body, engine and gearbox to match, retaining the original leather interior colour scheme, which has retained a beautiful patina all these years. Mechanically sound and with a solid original body, the car retains all original panels, apart from one door that was replaced during the restoration. In 2007 the car arrived in Europe with 62, 000 original miles and has since travelled no more than 3500 miles with only one careful owner who cared for the car. A lovely example of one of the most desirable types of the late S1 4. 2 E. Seize the opportunity to own "the most beautiful car ever made" according to Enzo Ferrari, which celebrates its 60th birthday debut this year.
