Description
Produced in 1937 this car was known as the New Opal, with lots of upgrades from the earlier version with innovations such as four speed gearbox, 747cc, 3 main bearing side valve engine now producing in excess of 16 1/ 2 BHP.
Uprated girling brakes and so on.
When new this car would have sold for £112 the opal was part of the Austin Jewel range along with the Pearl and Ruby.
First registered DOC 666, there is little in the way of early history but some 30 years ago was purchased by an overseas client who then had the car totally restored with no expense spared. It then spent the next 20 years in a private European museum until finally returning to the UK in 2012.
The car was then sold on to a TV personality where it remained in a small private collection until today.
This car has to be probably the best example of a Ruby in existence. Now looking for a new custodian.
