Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The February Timed Online Auction on Thursday the 27th of February. Background:
The 16H and the Model 18 were the first civilian models built by Norton post-war. In 1947, the machine received its final modification with telescopic forks, improving handling and giving the bike a more modern look despite its age. The basic engine configuration proved popular with customers, so Norton continued production until the mid-1950s, when the fashion for twin-cylinder motorcycles became prevalent. The 16H has a strong following of enthusiasts to this day.
The Bike:
This charming 1953 model comes from long term ownership, with the current keeper having cared for the bike for the last 26 years. The paintwork and chrome are free of rust, and the majority of the brightwork would come up well with a little polish.
Presented in a condition that belies its age, the bike has, unfortunately, been in a period of non-use due to the owner's health and has been dry-stored for the last few years. Some degree of recommissioning will presumably be required to start the bike, but our inspection confirms both a large amount of compression along with a strong spark, so the work required may well be minimal.
All three numbers — frame, engine, and transmission — are present and appear to be unaltered.
