Description
Designed by Pinky Lai under the guidance of Porsche design chief Harm Lagaay, the new Porsche 996 featured a completely new platform with a more aerodynamic body, a raked windscreen, and distinctive 'fried egg' headlamps. The car was longer, wider, and stiffer than its predecessor, the 993, yet lighter due to the use of high-strength steel and other weight-saving measures. The 996 Turbo, launched in 2000, epitomised the series' advancements. It featured all-wheel drive, a twin-turbocharged 3. 6-litre Mezger engine, and robust performance that made it a benchmark among supercars. The Porsche 996 Turbo was a testament to Porsche’s ability to blend tradition with innovation, securing the brand’s future and is highly regarded among enthusiasts for its blend of performance, advanced engineering and classic Porsche styling, but perhaps most of all, for its Hans Mezger designed water-cooled Engine. Praised by Evo magazine for “offering genuine supercar performance in a compact and practical package”, the 996-era 911 Turbo is a thoroughly sophisticated all-season supercar.
