Vehicle History
The current owner is a private historic American vehicle collector and has spent a significant amount of time and money improving the vehicle during his ownership with new parts receipts in the file totalling over £7k. Recent mechanical and performance upgrades include a professionally installed modern EPAS power steering system and Wilwood 4-piston forged aluminium front disc brake conversion and Wilwood break booster, allowing the vehicle to steer and break like a modern car. The electrical system has also been professionally re-wired along with numerous other mechanical/ electrical upgrades along with 100’s of man hours of maintenance.
The 390 FE big block V8 engine on this vehicle is a real gem and was rebuilt in the USA prior to import and enhanced further since. It runs very strong delivering great torque at low rpm and has a performance cam. It regularly serviced with the best oils, spark plugs and consumables.
These big block 63/ 64 Galaxie’s are becoming increasingly popular among fans of the great “David and Goliath” saloon car battles of the 1960’s - with the lighter more agile Lotus Cortina’s and Mini’s racing against the monster 427 Galaxies. Thankfully these battles are kept alive and continue to entertain us thanks to the current Goodwood Revival historic racing series.
With original 427 R-Code historic Goodwood cars fetching nearly £250k, this entry-level tribute car represents a great opportunity to appreciate the essence and nostalgia of these historic racing giants at a fraction of the cost of an original.
Overall a much loved, enjoyed and well-maintained car with bags of character. Serviced and used regularly on dry days and filled only with premium Shell V-Power E5 fuel. The glorious big-block V8 burble and exhaust sound on tick-over from the “lumpy” performance cam sounds epic. This vehicle would appeal to someone who is looking for a classic American automatic cruiser to drive as it is, or perhaps someone who wants a fantastic base canvas to further develop and build their own unique historic racer, with perhaps a 6-speed Tremec manual gearbox, roll cage and modifications designed to their own personal specification.
Please note that the vehicle is now over 60 years old and therefore some areas of the original exterior and interior fittings naturally show signs of age, patina and use. However, in our opinion this simply adds to this car’s unique charm, history and character. She a very solid example with many great features for the new owner to build upon or just enjoy as it is. Registered as a UK historic vehicle - tax, mot & ULEZ exempt.
