Today everyone and their grandmother is building a high-performance off-roader, but back in the early noughties if you wanted the peak blend of sportscar and family hauler you would look no-further than the first generation Porsche Cayenne.
By the time the second generation Cayenne was launched, Porsche had sold over a quarter of a million first generation cars. The Cayenne had, despite its disputed looks, become a sales success. For the second generation car, Porsche vastly improved the styling, bringing it inline with the rest of the range whilst continuing to build the car on the innate capable VW/ Audi group platform that also spawned the Q7 and the Touareg.
This example was supplied by Porsche Centre Hamburg in March of 2013 – the car is a highly desirable V8 powered GTS model. Externally, the car is finished in Porsche Black (041). The paintwork is in good condition, and it’s a colour that suits the nature of the car well. As a GTS, the car benefits from Porsche’s dynamic light system.
The wheels are 21” items, matched to the style of the 911 Turbo wheel of the same era. Tucked behind which are the massive red Porsche labelled calipers. As a GTS the car benefits from colour coded arch extensions, front lip and other GTS specific trims.
The interior is everything you’d expect of a Porsche, with high quality tactical materials in abundance. The seats are trimmed with leather bolsters and alcantara centres finished with GTS embroidery in red thread. The red backed gauges tie in the theme and give a gentle nod to what is hiding under the bonnet. There are all the expected creature comforts too, heated seats, Bose audio controlled by Porsche’s PCM system and of course vital red seat belts.
The interior is an incredibly nice place to be, despite the car's age there are limited signs of wear. The material quality that Porsche demands means that the fit, finish and experience is as good today as it was in March of 2013.
In the engine bay you’ll find what sets this GTS apart from the more common base spec, or even diesel powered Cayennes. It’s a 4. 8-litre V8 that produces around 420bhp, which is mated to an 8-speed ZF sourced automatic gearbox. Anyone can shoe-horn an enormous amount of power into an off-roader but actually making it usable is another challenge. Thankfully, Porsche equipped the GTS with PASM – Porsche Active Suspension Management. This combination means that despite the car’s size, it handles incredibly well.
Despite being supplied new in its homeland, this Cayenne has spent time in Greece before being formally imported and registered in the UK in 2021. The instrument cluster still reads in KPH and of course the car is left-hand-drive.
The service records show that throughout its travels, it has been maintained consistently within the Porsche network and will be supplied with a fresh service from Porsche West London.

As a LHD example, this car represents a great opportunity for those who have commitments both in the UK and across the continent. Maybe you fit a set of winter tyres and use it to take the family to the Alps, or keep it on some summer tyres and use it to cover thousands of kilometers at great pace in great comfort. With just 88, 000 kilometers (55, 000 miles) it is a low mileage, well maintained example of a brilliant car.
