Description
According to the Mercedes Benz Datacard, this lovely LHD 280SL was built by Mercedes Benz on 22nd February 1984 and was an export specification car specially ordered by its first owner Mr Joseph Biebel from Mannheim in Germany, and it was first registered there on 16th March 1984. The car is finished in its original colour scheme of Champagne Gold Metallic with a full Brown Leather interior and comes with Rear Child Seats and seat belts, Dark Brown Mohair Soft Top, Factory body-coloured Hard Top, Passenger Door Mirror, Front Armrests, electric windows, Air Conditioning (although not connected), its original 2746cc straight six fuel injected Engine, 4 Speed Automatic Gearbox, Power Assisted Steering, ABS Brakes, and its original 15'' Mercedes Alloy Wheels. It has retained its USA specification twin headlights which really suit these cars and it has had a very nice period looking Classic 100BT stereo radio/ CD player by Classic Car Stereo with Bluetooth and a USB connection. According to the Service/ Maintenance Book, it had its first service carried out by Mercedes Benz in Manheim in June 1984 and it was then exported to California, USA by Mr Biebel at some point later in 1984. The car had two further keepers in California with the third owner being a Mr Clive Gessing-Richardson from Santa Barbara in California who bought the car in June 2004 when the speedometer was reading 118, 217 (73, 458 miles) and he kept the car in the USA until August 2010 before having it shipped to the UK and it was subsequently registered here on 25th May 2012 at his home in Beccles, Norfolk. Mr Gessing-Richardson had owned the car for 9 years in total but only kept the car here in England for 3 years before selling it to the owner of a local furniture restoration company in Beccles, Norfolk in February 2013. They owned the car for just over 2. 5 years before selling it to a customer of ours - a Mr Anthony Riddle from Barnes, here in south west London on 20th November 2015. During his ownership, Mr Riddle took the car to his home in Nyon, Switzerland and also down to his villa in Marbella, Spain and there are invoices in the file for services and works carried out by a Mercedes specialist here in Surrey, Mercedes Benz main dealers in Nyon and Marbella, and a specialist in Zurich. After 3 years of ownership, the car was transported back from Marbella to our showrooms in the summer of 2018 for us to sell on his behalf. We sold the car to the current Polish owner in 2019, and he kept the car here at his house in Surrey before taking it to his main residence in Poland in 2020. It has hardly covered any miles during his ownership, but it was fully serviced by Mercedes Benz in Warsaw and the Flat Face Alloy Wheels were refurbished and fitted with a new set of Hankook tyres before he sent the car back to us to sell for him last year. It has now covered 129, 384 Kilometers (80, 397 miles) from new and comes with a comprehensive service history from new with lots of invoices from the USA, the UK, Spain and Switzerland and most recently Poland. It also comes with its original order form from Mercedes in Germany to Mr Biebel, Sales invoice, Factory build records and Data Cards, original Handbook, Maintenance Book, Mercedes Benz Club documents and two sets of keys. This car is genuinely in exceptional condition both inside and out and looks as though it has been recently restored, but it is very much an original and totally rust free car with excellent paintwork and the brown Mohair Soft Top is only a few years old and looks like new! We did MOT the car in November 2024 and this runs until 14/ 11/ 2025 and upon sale, the car will have pre sales service and will come with our own 6 month mechanical warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required. A fantastic and very reliable car for touring around Europe this summer and perhaps most importantly, it is now eligible for Historic Vehicle status and hence, MOT & Road Tax exem
