Description
VDP 1300 (Auto): 3 Owners/ 34k Miles/ Stunning
The ADO16 was designed by Alec Issigonis who, following the success of the mini, was looking to design a larger, slightly more sophisticated car. The 1100/ 1300 was a great success and ‘badge engineering’ meant that there were offerings with Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley, Vanden Plas and MG radiator grills.
The car that caught the imagination was the Vanden Plas – a top of the range leather and wood creation with twin carbs, uprated engine and that touch of class that filled a slot in the small car luxury market that nobody knew existed.
Milestone Classics have a soft spot for the VDP 1300 – Jamie has owned his for 12 years and knows every knock, cranny and rust-trap that lurks deep in these cars. We sold this car last year to a regular customer and Jamie and I were absolutely delighted to take her back in part-exchange against our Ford Cortina Mk1.
Finished in ‘Wild Moss Green’ with ‘Olive’ leather interior our 1972 Princess has had just 2 owners from new and is without question one of best and most original examples of the marquee that you could wish to own.
Mechanically the Princess is outstanding and drives as good as she looks with low mileage engine, smooth changes/ kick-down from the automatic gearbox and all instruments, gauges, switches etc. function without fault.
The interior is like stepping back in time. The leather seats show minimal wear, the veneered dash/ door tops are lovely and the car retains her original Wilton carpet & wool headlining – she looks right/ smells right/ drives right.
The large history file contains original Passport to Service, Radiomobile operating instructions, Vanden Plas Service Statement (I have never seen this), old V5’s and invoices/ MOT’s back to 1979.
Unmolested classics of this quality rarely come to market - they simply move between owners via the car club grapevine.
Ready to use and enjoy, we expect this outstanding VDP to find a discerning custodian very quickly. You will not be disappointed.
