The Peugeot 205 is widely regarded as one of the best small cars of the 80s, earning its place as one of the world's most beloved classic hot hatches. It was even honoured with CAR magazine's ‘Car of The Decade’ award for the 1980s. This well-crafted and stylish car boasts curvaceous lines and balanced proportions. The 205 marked a departure from the conservative design approach of Peugeot's earlier small cars, embracing a bold new design that remained iconic until the introduction of the 206 in 1998.
The high-performance GTi variant was initially introduced in 1984 with a 1. 6L engine, followed by the 1. 9L GTi, equipped with an XU9JA engine delivering 128 BHP. Notably, the 1. 9L GTi's light weight, at just 900 KG, enabled it to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 7. 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 127 MPH, right from the factory. The 1. 9L version also came with half-leather seats, disc brakes on all corners, and 15" Speedline SL299 alloys. Even after production ceased in 1993, its popularity endured. It went through a phase as an affordable track toy but has recently experienced a resurgence as a highly sought-after classic hot hatch, particularly in its unmodified form.
This particular 1989 example is in great overall condition, and it maintains its striking appearance and is undoubtedly worthy of close inspection by both enthusiasts and collectors. The paintwork is clean and tidy, and the alloys are in good condition and shod in matching Toyo Proxes tyres. Matching Dickens Chester front and rear registration plates complete the look.
The smart half-leather sports seats are in great condition in the most part, with only slight creasing evident on the driver’s seat bolster, and the cabin carpets are also in great condition, displaying minimal signs of aging. Additionally the boot section presents well and the rear parcel shelf is still fitted and free from speaker holes.
The black dashboard appears to be well-preserved, showing no signs of splits, cracks, or warping. A distinctive sports GTi steering wheel is installed in the cockpit, boasting a lovely black leather finish that matches well with the rest of the interior. A Pioneer CD player also features.
This is a non-sunroof model and the headlining is in great condition.
Overall a very original and unspoiled example ready to go!
