Description
This delightful, quirky, and very original Raleigh All Steel frame equipped the Cyclemaster power wheel is a fantastic piece of history.
The Cyclemaster launched in the 50's and was a great option for people who wanted to motorise their bicycle. The benefit of the Cyclemaster was that the luggage rack, seat, and handlebars were left unmolested, and it didn't interfere with the riding dynamics of the original pushbike, in fact, it enhanced the riding buy making the centre of gravity lower, hence safer.
There is a story within the history file of a couple who toured a tandem bike with a sidecar equipped with a Cyclemaster through southern Scotland, traveling down the east coast through Edinburgh, Newcastle, York, and Scarborough. Throughout their trip they were able to maintain a very steady 10-15Mph, and a consumption of around 200Mpg throughout their hilly journey.
Cyclemaster Ltd released some technical specifications of the 25cc engine which stated 0. 6bhp @ 3700rpm and a cruising speed of 18mph. The Cyclemaster came with an Amal308 Carburettor, took 2. 5 pints of fuel mixed at a 25:1 petrol to SEA20 oil mix, and cost £25 including fitting.
