Description
1938 Rover P2 14HP Sports Saloon.
From a deceased estate, this fine Rover P2 is presentable and in running and driving condition.
The engine starts very readily and the car drives as it should with clutch, gearbox, steering and brakes all functioning correctly. We have driven the car with the freewheel engaged and that works correctly too, enabling clutchless gear changes.
The body is in good structural condition with all the doors opening and closing properly and the paintwork is generally quite good, the car having been repainted not long ago. There is a patch of crazing at the back of the roof on the offside and some micro blistering but the latter is quite hard to spot. The windows all wind up and down and the door locks all work. The running board rubbers are in very good condition.
The interior, however, does require some attention. The lovely brown leather seats will respond well to a clean and a feed and some minor repairs to the driver’s seat covering. Similarly, the headlining is in good order. The carpets however, will need replacing as water has got into the front footwells and the plywood floor at the front will need replacing also. The rear floor is steel and just needs cleaning and painting. Presently the pressing which fits under the rear seat is missing but we are trying to locate it. For these reasons we are selling the car as a running project.
The superb quality Rover instrumentation is all working with the exception of the fuel gauge; we suspect the sender is at fault, however. The dynamo shows a healthy charge and oil pressure remains steady. An electric fuel pump has been fitted under the rear seat – a worthwhile modification.
Under the bonnet all is present and correct and the Bijur-Luvax automatic lubrication system appears to be in working order. One side of the bonnet hinge is presently seized but we are endeavouring to free it off.
Most of the brightwork is dull but salvageable with the exception of the rear quarter bumpers which will need replating.
The tyres will need replacement as the car has been standing for some time.
There is a file with recent MoT history as well as an RF60 buff log book.
Overall, a very sound example of one of the most desirable and capable Rover models which will reward some straightforward light restoration and is offered at a very affordable price.
