Fiat 500D UK RHD Classic / 1959 / Fully Restored To Concourse Condition – Usable Upgrades - The Best @ £24, 995.
This early highly desirable genuine UK Right Hand Drive ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic 500 range) has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, ‘round speedo’ & has been expertly restored on a no expense spared basis - In fact it has it all! As they say as rare as hen’s teeth…..
Examining the UK V5C which legally states if a vehicle has ever been imported, this one has no such note added, meaning it’s an original RHD UK example first registered here from new in 1959. Meaning it’s a crossover example from an N to D model, this one being more D, with the VIN starting 110D. It comes with a fantastic early registration number 263 UXA which is not transferable.
This stunning example is showing 3 owners on the V5C & was reregistered with the DVLA in March 2004 due to being off the road for many years prior to restoration.
If the new owner should want the Trasformabile long sunroof conversion undertaken, we can do this in house at trade cost, but we think this example to too good to convert!
We purchased this stunning vehicle relatively locally & have pictures of it tucked up in its warm heated garage located adjacent the beautiful Manor House. We also recall seeing it flying around the Goodwood circuit at the 2017 Goodwood revival meeting as part of the Fiat 500 club display weekend which we were also proudly part of.
No details of the restoration came with the vehicle, so we examined this incredible example in our workshops up on our ramps to decipher what has been done during the nut & bolt restoration.
We can confirm that this epic no expense spared work looks to have been completed circa 5 – 7 years ago & the vehicle has been little used & very well stored since, so looks like a 1 year old restoration. It appears to have included: Complete strip to bare metal shell & new floors correctly fitted along with new doors & a front nose panel. Then after bare metaling the external surfaces, the little chap was fully primed & flatted back & then received a glorious coat of Fiat medium blue. A beautiful correct period colour that really sparkles in the sun & the paint finish is as good as if it had been done in our own workshop. The cockpit was also fully painted, the boot void, engine compartment & even the wheel arches are body coloured. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top!
A complete new wiring loom has been installed after the paintwork was completed along with new switch gear, a full new electronic ignition system, premium battery, wiper motor, linkage & chrome arms., The original interior has been sent to a trimmer & fully and expertly made in blue piped cream, with matching door cards & premium bespoke floor mats – Very sumptuous indeed. The engine was upgraded to a new 650cc unit & mated to a fully synchromesh gearbox for ease of everyday use & so the vehicle can keep up with modern traffic & actually be used!
All new consumables such as clutch, starter motor, fuel pump, alternator belt, coil, new Webber carb, plugs, fuel filter, air filter & all new fuel copper lines. In fact every hose, clip, washer grommet & such like has been renewed.
All ancillary items have indeed been replaced, accelerator, clutch, starter & choke cables. The petrol tank has been replaced with a new one including all sundries. A complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed, including the sunroof which was replaced with a new mohair one & new roof frame, other items of interior trim were refurbished or replaced as required. The lights were refurbished all rubber items were replaced including the door seals, windscreen & quarter light rubbers, new glass was also fitted as required including the front windscreen. The suspension system was also fully replaced with the front leaf spring being upgraded to improve the handling along with adjustable front springs. A new exhaust was fitted, in fact every mechanical item was either refurbished or replaced.
The brakes were naturally all overhauled with virtually every component being replaced from the master cylinder down to the brake shoes.
The steering system was also fully overhauled with all components being replaced, a new steering idler kit fitted along with track rod ends & ties etc.
The bumpers & brackets were replaced, new wing mirror fitted, new front moustache, correct ally moulding kit, fully shot blasted & refurbished original Fiat steel wheels, new inner tubes, and new matching tyres with integrated white wall bands.
The speedo which has been fully refurbished reads 32, 187 probably correct.
This charming example has been restored without cost in mind & is truly a full nut & bolt pain staking restoration to concourse standard. A true labour of love…
Since being in our possession we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exception example to the market by undertaking the following works: Conducted a full mop & polish & final Swissvax treatment to the external paintwork. The rain water should it ever see any will just roll off now. Repainted the steel wheels in light Ivory – Both sides. Fitted new door straps & oil cap. Fitted an Italian ‘D’ decal set along with Italian number plate surrounds. Fitted a premium heat shield pad. The car has been fully serviced & checked over. Had a new matching passenger mirror fitted. Fiat key ring, fully refurbished correct Jack & straps along with a tool set. We have also fitted a new period correct boot rack & wicker hamper basket for 4 people.
The car looks better than new and is no doubt as good as when it left the factory in 1959. It’s probably the best example in Europe for the price asked, has been correctly restored by people who know the marquee. This is a collector’s opportunity and a superb investment. It has only driven a nominal mileage since its full restoration!
