We are pleased to offer for sale our latest super rare investment piece. This stunning 1949 Triumph Trophy TR5T 500cc has had just 6 owners from new and still boasts its original registration as shown on the bikes V5. The bike has been tastefully restored to a very high level with the speedo showing 2, 669 miles which is mileage covered since the restoration. The bike features chrome rims, 7/ 8th handlebars, gearbox speedo drive (as per 1949/ 50 specification) BTU magneto with manual advance and retard levers on the bars.
Triumph announced the TR5 Trophy in November 1948 at the Earls Court show and was intended to attract clubman riders wishing to compete in off-road events and was based on the works team model that had successfully campaigned in trials in 1948 ISDT. The 500cc engine featured a square alloy barrel from the wartime generators used on Lancaster bombers (this was why the engine and frame numbers never matched on the TR5's). The engine and transmission were housed in a smaller frame than usual therefore giving the bike a shorter wheel base and came with a detachable head lamp and a high level Siamese exhaust system. This model being the road going version has a lower compression making it much easier to start.
We are led to believe that only 2 or 3 TR5's have been offered for sale over the last 40 years making this a very rare opportunity to own one of the most coveted Triumph motorcycles ever produced.
