Description
1973 Ford Escort MK1 RS 1600 (16-valve Cosworth BDA). Only 900 examples of this model were made. The Gr. 4 conversion was carried out in 2007 by David Sutton, who used to make factory cars for Stig Blomqvist (World Champio), who drove it in 2008 in historic rallies (see photos attached). Since 2009, it has been in an important car collection and has only been used for sporadic demonstrations. The engine, made by Field Motorsport for David Sutton, has been completely overhauled. It gives 250 bhp on the dyno. It is an 1840cc engine, as permitted by the FIA homologation form, with a maximum torque of 24 m. Kg at 6, 500 rpm. At 3, 500 rpm, the torque is already 18 m. Kg. Of course, it is dry-sump lubricated. The gearbox is a 5-speed ZF (S5-18-3). The bodywork is fully reinforced. The wheels are 15-inch Minilites. The car has had the same British registration since leaving the factory in 1973. It can be seen in the accompanying photos with Blomqvist when he drove it, and it also has the now-expired FIA P. T. H., which can be renewed.
The gearbox is the 5-speed ZF, the rear axle is the big Atlas axle with self-locking, and the suspension and brakes include all the modifications authorised by the Group 4 homologation form.
The safety features are now out of date and need to be renewed. This car offers a dual interest: as a competition car and as a collector's car. While most competition Escorts are built from two-door 1300 or 1600 models, this one is built to the highest standards (as stipulated by FIA homologations) from an RS 1600 with a BDA Cosworth engine.
