Description

Very nice restored Porsche example with affordable short wheelbase Optional 5-speed gearbox Fully restored, documented with over 700 photos Elegant ivory with red interior THE PORSCHE 912 Put into production in July 1964, the 911 foreshadowed the end of production of the 356. It wasn't until July 1965 that the 911 arrived in the US, and customers immediately noticed the differences with its predecessor. As well as being more modern and more powerful, it was also more expensive: almost $2, 000 more than the comparable 356 model. This was a problem in Europe too. So in April 1965, a "transition model" went into production. Essentially a 911 equipped with a 356-type flat-four, the new car, called the "912", was not only cheaper, selling at prices close to those of the 356, but also benefited from a more even weight distribution and better economy. The combination of the four-cylinder engine and the 911's more slippery design meant that fuel consumption could reach 30 miles per hour. Over 30, 000 were eventually built. OUR 912 This 1967 912 coupe was built at the Karmann factory and is beautifully finished in Light Ivory with a red leatherette interior. The car began its life in Washington State, USA, the beautiful evergreen state. About ten years ago, it arrived in Europe via a French classic car collector who sold it to the owner of a Belgian body shop. During its meticulous restoration, which was completed in 2017, this 912 was brought down to a showroom finish throughout, its stock appearance being maintained. The Hellelfenbien Weiss paintwork is very well done and doesn't appear to have been over-restored. The chrome is nice and bright, with the original 'fully enclosed' chrome bumpers at the front, and the interior is in the same vein and has been tastefully preserved and restored. Opening the door, we're greeted by some pretty SWB details. The first chrome running boards, the first door handles, an original Blaupunkt radio, period Porsche seat belts, etc. Mechanically, the engine and transmission were rebuilt as part of the project to ensure a reliable powertrain. The car is fitted with the optional 902/ 1 5-speed gearbox that was shared with the 911. The car starts as soon as you turn the key, the engine pulls well at all revs and gear changes are smooth. The 912 was a real success when it was launched and, to this day, it has its fair share of fans, partly because it is better balanced. The interest and market value of early Porsche 912s has grown steadily in recent years and here we offer an example that has been cared for and restored, quite simply ready for years of driving pleasure to come. One of the purest Porsche experiences, the 912 is a car that every enthusiast should own one day or another. The car comes with a matching red cover, a spare wheel, hundreds of photos of its restoration, the old US title and of course the current Belgian title. This is a beautiful 912 to enjoy and drive without worry, AND at a fraction of the cost of a short wheelbase 911 or 356! The car is currently registered in Belgium and is being sold in the name of a customer.
