Description

This 1964 pull-handle MGB Roadster is a UK home-market example that has been cherished by its last but one owner for over 20 years.

Subjected to a comprehensive bare-shell restoration in the late 1990s, the car has covered approximately 45, 000 miles since its rebuild, with 38, 000 of those miles enjoyed by its most recent owner. Renowned for its reliability and comfort, this MGB has proven itself as an exceptional long-distance touring car, perfect for overseas adventures.

The car has participated in numerous MG Club events and embarked on tours across Europe and the UK, including two trips to Norway, two to France, four to Spain, one to Portugal, and countless journeys to Ireland and Scotland.

In the late 1990s, Rugby Classic Motor Garages acquired the MGB as an unfinished project, complete with its original green continuation ‘buff’ logbook. The car was stripped to its bare shell, its bodywork fully restored and repainted, and its brightwork, wheels, tyres, rubbers, and trims replaced. The interior was entirely refreshed with a new mohair hood and tonneau cover fitted, while the mechanical components were overhauled. This included rebuilding the engine, gearbox, overdrive, and rear axle, along with a complete suspension rebuild and wiring loom replacement, resulting in a car finished to an exceptional standard.

In 2002, the MGB was sold to its most recent owner, who relished countless tours throughout the UK and Europe. A comprehensive history file accompanies the car, containing receipts documenting its maintenance and servicing. Notably, the gearbox and overdrive were reconditioned 37, 000 miles after the initial restoration.

Last year, the car underwent a further £6, 000 refresh by Malton Coachworks in Yorkshire. This included removing the engine, detailing and repainting the engine bay, fitting a new clutch, and addressing oil leaks. Detailed invoices for this extensive work are included in the history file.

On the road, the MGB performs beautifully. The engine pulls strongly, delivering excellent power with robust oil pressure, while the four-speed overdrive gearbox operates smoothly. The car handles with confidence, making it a joy to drive.

Over 25 years since its restoration, TJX 792 still presents superbly, with a well-maintained paint finish, straight and smart panels, gleaming brightwork, and a tidy interior. Structurally, the car remains in excellent condition.

This is an outstanding and well-sorted MGB Roadster, combining sharp presentation with proven reliability and extensive long-distance touring credentials.
