Description
HJA 996E boasts an impressive history, having spent 35 years with one family before changing hands in 2013. Passed from father to daughter, this MGB GT underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2010, carried out by a respected MG specialist in West Yorkshire.
A remarkable £24, 000 was invested in the restoration, which addressed significant bodywork repairs. The project included the replacement of various panels and sections, all of which are documented in a detailed photographic record accompanying the car. Corroded areas were meticulously removed and replaced with new metal, including the installation of brand-new floors. Following these extensive repairs, the body was prepared for paint, with the engine removed and the engine bay stripped. The car was then repainted in its original Mineral Blue.
The mechanical re-commissioning included the installation of a reconditioned engine with an unleaded cylinder head, a new clutch, and the gearbox checked and refitted. Additional upgrades included a new Webasto sunroof, replacement carpets, and headlining, as well as a new wiring loom and necessary ancillary components.
Since its restoration, the MGB GT has proven to be an exceptionally reliable and enjoyable car, as you’d expect following such significant investment. Structurally, the car remains in excellent condition, with a well-presented engine bay and a body that has aged gracefully. The paintwork and body panels retain a good finish, and the interior trim is neat and tidy.
The engine runs beautifully, delivering excellent oil pressure, while the gearbox operates smoothly and is a delight to use. Although this MG was not fitted with the optional overdrive, it cruises effortlessly on A and B roads, offering a fantastic driving experience.
Overall, HJA 996E is a well-presented and highly usable MGB GT, offering exceptional value more than a decade after its restoration. Complete with an impressive history file, this classic promises enjoyable motoring and a rewarding driving experience.
