Description
MCY416M was built in 1974 at the Blackheath Factory of Leyland Motor Corp S. A in Cape Town and was purchased new as a wedding gift. Soon after, the newly-weds moved to Johannesburg and took the Mini where it was used to take the children to school. The Mini spent most of its life in Johannesburg before being sold to its 2nd owner in Port Elizabeth in 2000. Unfortunately, it’s owner in Port Elizabeth become unable to drive, which rendered the car as an ornament where it sat dry stored for a number of years ahead of a major restoration.
After it's time off the road, the Mini was passed down to the owner's son, an enthusiast who spent 2 years restoring the car. Major work included bodywork and re-paint, a mechanical overhaul and interior trim work. Many years later having led a interesting life in South Africa, the MKIII Mini arrived in the UK in 2022 and has been cherished and used sparingly since.
The Mini presents very well, the paintwork, bodywork, underside and interior are all of a very good standard. On the road the Mini is fantastic fun, the 1098cc engine feels strong and fit, gear changes are lovely, and the car feels tight and correct. MCY416M is a very honest and usable classic car that would make a great addition to a collection of Minis or offer a great entry into classic car ownership. Ideal for regular use, shows, events and weekend fun.
