The Porsche 928 marked a number of key departures for Porsche when it was launched in 1977. It became the first V8 powered car from the marque, as well as the first front engined model. The 928 attained the prestigious European Car of the Year accolade in 1978, an unusual award to for a luxury performance model. ‘B639NAB’ showcases why the 928 was such an acclaimed model. Dating from 1984, and now MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax, ‘B639NAB’ is a 4. 7 litre, 310bhp S2 model with four speed automatic transmission. ‘B639NAB’ stands out further thanks to its rare, special factory order “perlweib” or “pearl white” paintwork. With around 109, 000 miles covered to date in the hands of six previous keepers, ‘B639NAB’ comes with a full binder of paperwork, service history and invoices.

On first seeing ‘B639NAB,’ it is that sublime pearlescent paint that makes an immediate impression. It’s really quite striking. The futuristic look of the Porsche 928 then dawns on one with the car looking surprisingly contemporary despite its 40 years of age. Those uncovered pop up headlamps only reinforce this impression and the “slab” style alloy wheels still look impressive. That air of modernity is definitely mirrored in the 2+2 interior. The deeply bolstered, and heavily cushioned seats are very “Space 1999” and finished in supple and striking grey and blue piped leather. The rear seats are even surprisingly practical for children as is the commodious boot accessed via that large, glass hatch.

By the time ‘B639NAB’ left Zuffenhausen, the 928 was using the 4. 7 litre, M28 V8 all alloy engine. Not only a powerful, sonorous and refined unit but a good looking one, too. This is mated to a four speed automatic gearbox making ‘B639NAB’ a surprisingly usable car with admirably modern dynamics. The S2’s 310bhp was sufficient for an impressive 150mph plus top speed. In terms of ‘B639NAB’s’ condition, the vendor rates the engine and transmission as “excellent” with all other facets judged as “good.”

In summary:

· Superb and rare special order white pearlescent paint

· The 310bhp 4. 7 litre S2 model considered somewhat of a sweet spot

· Just become MOT exempt and tax zero rated based on age
