A Mk1 Morris Mini Cooper S is a rare find, and this example is no exception.

Coming to us from a deceased estate, the Mini was purchased by the vendor in 2002 as an ex rally car, and he set about converting it back to a more standard specification including the correct interior and instrumentation.

We believe the Mini lived in London for the first 16 years of its life in the hands of its original owner, before passing through a number of other owners – there is a summary of the names and address of the owners in the file when information like this was available from DVLA.

During its life, it appears the Mini has been reshelled with a later Mk2 shell. Notwithstanding this, the Mini looks great and appears in sound condition. It is believed the Mini was originally white / black from new and at some stage was painted red with a white roof, before having its roof painted black. Paintwork is a little tired as is the chrome work, and although the tyres are matching Dunlops, they appear old. Cooper S 10 inch steel wheels finished in cream also feature. The typical Mini grot spots appear sound but please come and see the car to make your own mind up.

The interior is very smart – there is an invoice on file for a pair of seats from Newton Commercial in 2003 for £494. 58 (a lot less than they are now!).

Some recommissioning will be required as the Mini has been stood nearly 12 months since the death of the vendor.

Documentation is extensive – in addition to the V5, we have lots of bills for parts purchased by the vendor, the aforementioned DVLA summary of owners, previous MOT certificates, Rally Special Stage vehicle log book, tax disks, and other assorted paperwork. We also have a selection of pictures of the Mini and a CD Rom. The original VIN tag is also in the file.

On purchasing the car in 2002, our vendor embarked on the drive home to the Wirral from Kent – during which the engine expired. A copy of the RAC rescue note is on the file.

We have been told the following information regarding the engine presently fitted to the Mini.

1293cc A series from a 1969 Morris 1300 GT
Twin SU carb set up with factory air filter
Kent 266 camshaft
9:1 compression ratio
70 bhp at the wheels
Competition straight cut gearbox

Whilst we appreciate that much of the originality of the Mini has been lost, this car offers great value for money and it could be a cheap way into Cooper S motoring offering all the looks and go of a Cooper S for a fraction of the price of a numbers matching car with an original shell.
