The X300 Jaguar saloon debuted in 1994 and became the first Jaguar to be developed whilst the company was fully a subsidiary of Ford following it taking a majority shareholding in 1989. Ford’s priority was to retain the outgoing XJ40’s traditional appeal whilst dramatically improving the rather patchy build quality of its predecessor. Key to this aim was the introduction of cutting-edge robotised welding technology, ironically supplied by Nissan. The result was a highly successful luxury saloon with a vastly improved quality record which went on to become a legendary part of the Coventry firm's history.
The Car:
First registered in June 1997 to a Scottish doctor, this XJ6 Sport still presents well despite its advancing years. Enjoying all the usual standard equipment such as the Harman Kardon sound system, 6-CD auto changer, electric leather seats and sport suspension, this slice of British beef still wafts along in luxury, just as it should.
The interior condition is outstanding and looking at the rear seats, one would assume they have never been sat in. The bodywork also presents well, with some small bubbles now visible in places.
The car was treated to a brand new full headlining two years ago, along with a new exhaust. Whilst the service book has long since disappeared, the car was given a major service last year, which included upgrading the tricky camshaft sensor to a Bosch unit to guarantee longevity and peace of mind. A new Bosch battery was installed in 2024 as were four all-weather tyres which still carry 8mm of tread. The most recent service was in January of this year, a health check was also performed and the results of which can be seen in the picture gallery.
The car also comes with a long MOT, valid until January 2026. Advisories centre around some light corrosion underneath with would be something to keep an eye on. A windscreen chip is also mentioned, but that has been professionally repaired.
