It’s great to find a Corvette in excellent condition; and this one presents superbly inside, outside, underneath and on the road.
Imported and sold to the only UK owner in 2021 by Carrot Town Garage, one of the UK’s leading Classic American importers & specialists, it arrived from Miami in the kind of condition only dry state cars enjoy; with a solid, clean dry chassis & undercarriage. Whilst the owner of Carrot Town garage has now retired he was happy to discuss the car with me and has confirmed its a good one!
This example runs & drives superbly; holds the correct oil pressure, runs at the correct temperature, shifts up and down the gears well, the steering is direct and the brakes are sharp.
It benefits from an upgraded ignition coil and exhaust manifolds with Hooker headers into period correct sidepipes and following a recent tune up we suspect it benefits from a significant increase in power - it’s dialled in and ready to go! … It also makes a very nice noise indeed!
Whilst 46, 558 Corvettes left the factory in 1976 only 4, 447 were produced in Dark Brown metallic with Buckskin interior making this quite a rare car.
The 5. 7 litre 350 Chevy small block V8, mated to the 3 speed automatic gearbox got you to 60 mph in 7. 4 seconds (slow by todays standards but stay with me) which in 1976 was pretty impressive; the Mustang II Mach I needed 11. 2, an XJS V12 was 8. 8 and a BMW 630 CSi a surprising 11 seconds.
We love these later C3’s; 1976 saw significant changes to the iconic Stingray and some argue its the best looking C3 ever produced, Chevy chose not to build any convertibles in 1976 making this one of the very pretty T-Top coupe’s. Beautiful styling aside 1976 also saw mechanical revisions to the mighty Stingray, improving performance, reducing weight and increasing the BHP from 165 to 180. The cowl induction system was replaced, not only helping it breathe more easily & improving performance but getting rid of the slightly annoying whistle they previously made.
If you’re looking for an excellent & useable example thats on the key and ready to go, this car ticks a lot of boxes.
